NCGT shares $430,000 grant to boost employment of indigenous apprentices and trainees

North Coast Group Training Company (NCGT) will share in a $430,000 grant from the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations to help it to boost employment of local indigenous apprentices and trainees. 

The grant was awarded to NCGT’s parent company Hunter Valley Training Company (HVTC). It will be used to employ indigenous mentors and two project officers to help it to better support the recruitment and retention of indigenous apprentices and trainees in the Hunter, New England, Northern Rivers, North Coast and mid-North Coast regions of NSW. Incentives will also be provided to host employers to take on indigenous apprentices and trainees.

Increased support delivered to Australian apprentices

The Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook (MYEFO) signals increased support for Australian apprentices as the Gillard Government continues to invest in the skills needed for a strengthening economy. From 1 January 2011, trade apprentices working in ‘skill shortage occupations’ will receive additional tax exempt bonuses of up to $1700 as they reach milestones during their training.
